NCEFT’s Social Skills Group launched in spring of 2015. We are pleased to continue our commitment to supporting our clients and their families in their social and emotional growth.
The Social Skills Group program is designed for children aged 7-11 years who may have trouble picking up on social cues such as body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions. The goal is to help improve a child’s ability to function in everyday social situations.
Our approach is based on an experiential learning model and offers a unique combination of experiential learning modalities that include: instruction, role playing, game playing, art projects, nature activities, and hands-on animal therapy.
Objectives of the program include improving:
- whole body listening
- verbal negotiation
- perspective taking
- confidence building
- generalize or transfer skills to other situations within child’s living and social environment
This group is appropriate for children who have had success with a basic level of interaction such as offering eye contact, receiving instruction, answering questions, and asking questions, and who demonstrate a desire to interact.
Social Skills Groups run for 10-week long sessions – fall, winter, and spring – throughout the school year.
Our next session runs February 21, 2018 – April 25, 2018 on Wednesdays from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Children age 7-11.
- $50 Screening Fee: Upon receipt of your completed application, the group facilitator will schedule a 30-minute consultation to assess appropriateness of your child for this learning structure. (This screening is mandatory for all new Social Skills Group participants; fee waived for prior participants.)
